Dusk on the Gasherbrum Massif

From Gore Camp

A primary objective for this trek was to document alpenglow on "the shining wall" - the west face of Gasherbrum IV (7912m).

I was lucky with the weather this night and really could just spend an evening together with this geometrically perfect icon of the Karakoram. The mountains here attain similar scale to the high Himalaya yet their architecture appears bolder, the rock cleaved into sharper angles with a firmer, more deliberate hand. They stand to me symbolically as the profoundest mountain range on earth.
